Kicker Caragher is Clutch for Brentwood Eagles

The Eagles advance to the next round of the postseason after grabbing a late win against Carnahan on Wednesday night.

The game clock read 2:48 in the fourth quarter when Brentwood kicker Jake Caragher stood at the 17-yard line, waiting for the ball to be snapped. Caragher, a senior, kept telling himself that this kick was no different than an extra point. Never mind that Brentwood and Carnahan were tied 14-14 with the season on the line. Finally, the snap came, and the hold was perfect. Caragher powered the ball through the uprights, prompting the home Brentwood crowd to erupt in cheers. The 27-yard field goal would prove to be the deciding score in a game that featured an explosive first half but quiet second one. "I don't even know what to say right now," said a smiling Caragher after the game. "This is amazing. There is no other feeling." Have you '…

Brentwood Defense Stuffs Grandview

Friday night's win guarantees a playoff spot for the Brentwood Eagles.

A strong defensive performance from Brentwood shut out district foe Grandview on Friday night, as the home Eagles won 35-0. The win guarantees Brentwood (5-3) a spot in the state playoffs. Grandview's loss (1-7) knocked them out. (For a full photo gallery, visit our Brentwood Eagles Facebook page at www.facebook.com/BrentwoodEagles) After an early rush for a score from Brentwood senior Tyler Jones, Grandview responded by promptly marching down the field. Brentwood stopped Grandview on a 4th-and-5 play, but Brentwood was flagged for roughing the passer. Brentwood senior Danny Lynch spoiled the extended drive when he snagged an interception inside Brentwood's 20-yard line and returned it for a score, giving Brentwood a 14-0 lead in the first…

Eagles Look to Recover From Friday's Loss

Brentwood aims to rebound when it plays North Callaway next week.

Lutheran South was once a team that Brentwood could easily beat, but on Friday night, in front of Brentwood's homecoming crowd, this Lancers team had a different plan. The Eagle’s three-game winning streak came to an abrupt end after they lost to the Lancers 8-46. “They’re a good team, but we didn’t play up to our potential and just had a terrible night on defense,” Brentwood coach Keith Herring said. “Things didn’t happen for us. What more do I say?” (More photos are available on our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/BrentwoodEagles) One stat is enough: Brentwood was stopped on nine of 10 possessions, while Lutheran South scored touchdowns on seven of 10 possessions. Herring said he thought they could give them a game, and the Eagles …

Brentwood's Winning Streak Hits a Wall

The Eagles score only one touchdown in their homecoming game against Lutheran South.

Brentwood’s three-game winning streak hit a brick wall at homecoming on Friday night. The Eagles (3-3) were humbled by Lutheran South (2-4) by a score of 8-46. (A huge photo gallery from the game is available on our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/BrentwoodEagles) Seniors Tyler Jones and Danny Lynch led on rushing with 46 and 37 yards respectively. Junior Rekardo Owens followed with 27. On the Lancers side, senior Tuskani Figaro had 100 yards rushing before halftime, when the Lancers led the Eagles 33-0. He finished with 139 yards rushing and 60 yards receiving. He ran in three of the Lutheran South touchdowns. The Eagles’ only score came in the third quarter on a 12-yard slanting pass from junior quarterback Jordan Groth to junior …

Brentwood Offense Clicks in Win Over Wesclin

The Eagles controlled the scoreboard and game clock in their first win of the season.

After a quiet two weeks to start the season, the Brentwood offense came alive to top Wesclin 26-20 on Friday night. Brentwood's three-headed rushing attack—Rekardo* Owens, Danny Lynch and Tyler Jones—combined to carry the ball 46 times for 347 yards. Running the ball effectively allowed the Eagles to set the game's tempo: Brentwood (1-2) controlled the clock for 24 minutes of the game to the Warriors' (1-2) 16. "We want to eat the clock," Brentwood coach Keith Herring said. "If we keep pounding it like that, it wears them down and gives us more and more energy." (Want more photos? Ya, and also to linemen Evan, Keith, Chris, Connor, Big Dave, and Addie for winning the "Battle in the Trenches". The whole team "bought into" Coach Herring's call to perform like warriors in tribute to 9/11. Visiting family noted the outstanding play by play from our announcer, Dan Williams. MRH Overwhelms Brentwood With Ground Attack

Blue Devils run score to 45-0 in the first half, then the junior varsity offense adds 10 more in the second.

A dominant Maplewood Richmond Heights performance on Friday night prevented the Brentwood Eagles from scoring a single point. The Blue Devils (1-1) tallied 55 points while holding Brentwood (0-2) to 0 in a shutout game at MRH High School. “Our guys came out and flew around like we wanted them to,” MRH coach Brandon Gregory said. “For the most part they did what (defensive coach) Coach Kime asked them to do and everything went the right way.” ("Like" our brand new Brentwood Eagles and MRH Blue Devils Facebook pages to view photo galleries from the game — www.facebook.com/MRHBlueDevils and www.facebook.com/BrentwoodEagles) MRH junior Wes Williams, who finished up last year as a quarterback, stepped in for freshman runningback Elijah Keely …

The focus should be on the game played and the efforts of the players instead of unfounded accusations. MRH staff puts a lot of time and effort into confirming residency. Other districts have huge issues with non-resident students sneaking in. MRH athletes are vetted over and over again and STILL these accusations persist. Let's give the players from both teams the respect and congratulations …   more ›

MRH Blanks Brentwood in Dominant Performance

The Brentwood Eagles endure a tough loss to a stronger Maplewood Richmond Heights football team on Friday night.

In the words of head coach Keith Herring, the Brentwood Eagles were "embarrassed" by Maplewood Richmond Heights on Friday night. The Blue Devils blanked the Eagles, 55-0, at MRH High School in a rivalry game that was hyped all week. ("Like" our brand new Brentwood Eagles and MRH Blue Devils Facebook pages to view photo galleries from the game — www.facebook.com/MRHBlueDevils and www.facebook.com/BrentwoodEagles) Junior Wes Williams carried the load as the Blue Devils primary running back. Williams scored three touchdowns in the first half, the first scores of his career. He subbed for freshman Elijah Keely, who missed the game for personal reasons. Junior PJ Grady-Liska also added two touchdowns in the first half. Senior kicker John Barron…
