ReplyHi Sandy! I'm so excited to read your response - I too would make seared scallops, but will reveal the rest of my idea in Wednesday's column. Yes, please do submit a recipe (if you don't have time to test it that's ok, just a general idea of the cooking methods, preparation, etc. you would do). Technically no other ingredients should be used (sorry), but it sounds like you have a great, creative idea anyway. Thanks again!

ReplyHi Geri! I do believe there are places that serve what many consider to be spicy food, absolutely, and in Lake Saint Louis too. The guys at El Maguey knew exactly what they were doing, and I was so happy they were in Lake Saint Louis. I think that my personal spice preference could be described as extreme, having grown up with a mother who could eat food so spicy tears would run down her face, yet she wouldn't stop because she loved it so much. In New Mexico we would attend food festivals growing up that would serve salsa so hot a half a teaspoon could make your mouth burn overnight and into the next day - but you still remembered the flavors. If you know of a place where I could have that type of experience, I would genuinely love to hear about it - any advice would be great! Thank you so much for your comments, your tip for ordering sauces on the side is perfect for someone testing the spicy waters.

ReplyI love your point about the kids play area, Victoria. It's a genius idea, and works so well at Hartford Coffee. As far as filling that niche, I don't know. I know Vires plans on doing a Sunday brunch, which might draw that family crowd back in some, but it's not quite the same as relaxing with a cup of coffee and knowing the kids are having fun too.

ReplySkee ball is definitely exciting - I wonder how Vires' restaurant will do. Three restaurants have closed at that location, but there's a lot of hype around this particular chef, so we'll just have to try it and see.

Hi Sabra! During the meeting Traxler said that the owner of the Circle Drive property not only pays his rent, taxes, etc., but actually also pays for all fines associated with not bringing the house up to code. Traxler said he has no idea why the owner doesn't just make the repairs (which would probably be a lot less expensive than paying court fees/fines) or sell the house. It's a strange situation for sure - and your solution makes a lot of sense. At this point, tearing down the shed and making the repairs to the house on the city's dime kind of does the owner a favor, as he will be allowed to live in the house without having to do it himself (though the city will be reimbursed for the cost within about 3 years, according to Traxler). We'll have to wait and see what happens to it.
