What would be "the other side?"
I have full faith and confidence they will move somewhere. They will have an updated store in the area and it will be at a busy location. Doesn't "Plan B" seem a lot more plausible than "scare tactic?" -

If this is merely a question of "process" and "honor, dignity, and respect," I find the election materials suggesting that those who want to move forward with this process aren't willing to "Keep our Children Safe" to be a bit disingenuous.
Some days it seems as if those against this development just fling a variety of things at the wall and hope something will stick. Safety, noise, snacks sold at QT, traffic, "nefarious agendas," process; it appears that some as one "concern" gets addressed or gains no traction it's abandoned and another straw is grasped. -

ReplyIn addition, there is probably not many more effective ways to chill future investment than the creation of artificial barriers like many have attempted in this process.
An existing business with a good track record has worked with the city council, worked with the school board, and modified their plans to address concerns. All in an effort to put more money into their business, yet this isn't enough for some.
QT has gone above and beyond their duty and is still thwarted at every turn. An owner of a large parcel of land has found a long term, stable tenant, but still meets resistance. It may not be today, and it may not be this investment, but the attitude regarding this project will have an effect on investment.
I am amazed that some believe it's their right to dispose of other's property as they see fit. -

ReplyI eagerly await the chance to vote FOR this going forward.
A viable, legal, business, who has been a good citizen of the community, wants to move into a lot on the busiest intersection in the area. The owner of the lot wants this to take place.
Mr. Wiggs, you mention the soliciting of bids. Who should solicit bids from whom? This is two entities engaging in commerce. Not every transaction needs the blessing of the powers that be. The only reason the city council is involved is because of the gas sales, and I applaud them for standing up to those who want to create their vision of the community with others people's money. Some state this would be a great place for a coffee shop or bakery; then do it. If you want something else there, make it happen.
And by the way, I do live in the area, I do have a student that will be walking through there, I own a second property very close to the proposed site, and I will miss the current tenants. I like them being there, but more importantly I respect the right of a property owner to seek the most profitable, legal use of their assets.
We do live a long a state highway, we shouldn't be shocked that there are businesses traffic. -

Maybe the fact that it's jam packed is the problem. It would seem that would be an indication that a larger space is in order.

It's nice to see someone is approaching this with property rights in mind.

Seems a bit presumptuous to say that the landlord is creating havoc.
