Boys Hope Girls Hope Not in Brentwood's Best Interest, Group States

A blog spells out the groups's opposition to the group home.

Madge Hopes is a group of Brentwood residents near the proposed Boys Hope Girls Hope (BHGH) development who oppose the teen home and office being built on Madge Avenue.

GHBH provides a supportive environment for teens from unstable homes to live in while they attend middle and high school.

The group blogged on Patch recently that they were disappointed that Brentwood’s Planning and Zoning Commission and Board of Adjustment approved BHGH building on Madge Avenue.

It is expected the issue will receive final approval, or not, from the Brentwood Board of Aldermen at the July 15 meeting.

Madge Hopes blogged that they don’t see how allowing BHGH is in the best interest of the city.

“That BHGH had to ask for FIVE favors (three variances, a conditional use permit, and the re-zoning of a residential property), demonstrates for us the inappropriateness of that proposal for that site.

The four factors cited by MADGE HOPES --economic loss to the city, loss of home value by residents, loss of a green space opportunity, public safety--are some of the standards contained in the ordinance, for the approval of a conditional use permit. We don't see how the best interests of the city are served by BHGH if we believe the "best interests" include financial and safety concerns.”
